Dr Jess Welbourne

Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Neuroanaesthesia, University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust

I am the Southwest Peninsula neuro ICU lead and NACCS link, having worked in Plymouth since 2014. My clinical practice includes general intensive care medicine, neuro intensive care and regular neuroanaesthesia with an interest in base of skull.

My governance role means I have extensive experience in producing and modifying protocols and pathways for the care of patients both in neuro ICU and following cranial surgery. I have led the department’s Neuro ACSA standards review on two occasions. I have developed neuro educational opportunities for trainees in anaesthesia and ICM by establishing links with neuro rehab and creating readily available educational resources. I have co-edited the book ‘Traumatic Brain Injury’,  and I have written and peer-reviewed articles and educational content concerning NICU. I have recently been made an associate editor of the Journal of the Intensive Care Society. I am the local PI for some ICU trials including SOS. I am on the SDH Delphi consensus study advisory group, and I am supervising a group study into patient-reported outcomes following traumatic brain injury in the Southwest.
