Dr Sally Wilson
(Immediate Past-President)
Consultant in Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical Care, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London.
I have worked as a neuroanaesthetist and neurocritical care consultant at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London for over 20 years. My practice is predominately neuro oncology and skull base surgery. Although I have moved on from neurocritical care now, I still run the bereavement clinic and this has led me to lead and develop the Medical Examiner service for Camden. I helped to establish the first UK interventional MR scanner for neurosurgery and jointly chaired the AAGBI working party on ‘Safe provision of anaesthetic services in magnetic resonance units’. I care passionately about developing and training the future neuroanaesthetists within the UK and internationally and I set up and recruit to our clinical fellow programme for neuroanaesthesia. I have advised the Royal College of Anaesthetists on the requirements for the neuroanaesthesia CESR accreditation.
During my time on council I have represented the society in many ways, specifically the Joint Neurosciences Council, Small and Strategic Units Advisory Group and the Intensive Care Society Council with Strategic Partners. I continue to represent NACCS on the Working Party looking at the care of chronic subdural haematoma. I have also developed NACCs international collaboration with neuroanaesthesia and neurocritical societies in USA, India, Malaysia and Australia. We have also had joint meetings with the SBNS and the Obstetric Anaesthetist Association.
It has been an absolute honour to represent NACCS as President, I handed over to Craig in May at the Nottingham meeting and I am confident that he will continue to develop and nurture the society. I will stay on Council as Immediate Past President and look forward to meeting you all at one of our future meetings.
