Thank you for taking the time to read my message. Firstly I would like to acknowledge that Dr Judith Dinsmore has been an exceptional President of NACCS, so to take over in May 2019 at our AGM in Glasgow was a great honour. Judith is well known within the Society and throughout the international neuroanaesthesia community which has allowed the Society to develop new relations, in particular with our colleagues in North America. We will still be working together on Council so I will be using her insight at every opportunity.
At the 2019 AGM, we said goodbye to Dr John Andrzejowski – Immediate Past President, and Dr Justine Elliot. Both have made significant contributions to the Society over many years. I wish you every success in your future endeavors. We welcome Dr Craig Carroll as Honorary Treasurer and Dr Elfyn Thomas is still Honorary Secretary so I am confident the Society will be in safe hands. The 2019 AGM and the Glasgow ASM meeting was very interesting on a couple of levels. The first was the review of aspects of the constitution which have allowed:
- The name change to the Neuroanaesthesia and Critical Care Society. I am happy for this development – it ties in very nicely on how we have developed and where we are currently as a Society within the United Kingdom but also within Europe and further afield.
- A significant change in the membership structure. The full details can be seen here. As President I am looking forward to working on developing the membership base allowing non-medical colleagues involved with neuroanaesthesia and neurocritical care to use our society as a hub for their development.
- Streamlining of the membership application process. Sometime things just have to change to reflect how we are working. This new process will allow new members to not be put off by the actual mechanism of registering.
With best wishes
